1996 Mystic Cobra Production Numbers

Green Roof at Dearborn Assembly Plant

The 1996 Mustang Cobra was built at Ford’s Dearborn Assembly Plant Part of Ford’s River Rouge Complex. Over 6.7 Million Mustangs were built at Dearborn Between 1964-2004. In 2005 Mustang Production was moved to a new facility called Flat Rock about 15-20 mins away from the River Rouge Complex.

2000 Mystic Numbers 1-2000 were assigned to 2000 different 1996 vin numbers for the run of 1996 Mystic Cobras but only 1999 left the factory painted mystic. This has been a long standing debate but we have found the cause.

1999 or 2000 Mystics Built? The Truth

Of that 1999 Mystic Cobras

1990 Of them Had leather and Mach 460 Sound

9 of them were base model cobras that were cloth without the 460 sound ( Last count only 4 are still known to be on the road)

Of the total 1999 built only 1 of the 1990 Full optioned (Leather and Mach 460) 1996 Mystics cars was sent to Saleen  This car is the only Official 1996 Mystic Cobra to be transformed by Saleen  its Saleen #96-0189

 

The 1996 Mystic Cobra was only available in 2 markets the continental United States and Canada.

We have found internal Ford Documents that show Ford planned to export 40 (Not sure what the final export number was) 1996 Mystic Cobras to Canada we believe only 1 of these was a cloth non 460 car
